Cheerleading News

Age and grade verification: Charles County Public Facilities has initiated a new age/grade verification policy for its Recreation Cheerleading Squads.  Each parent or legal guardian must register his or her child at the correct age/grade listed for 2008/2009 school year. Parents must also submit his or her child's 2008 3rd or 4th quarter report card at the June registration.  Due to continued league growth and attendance at county and region-wide competitions, adherence to the team age/grade guidelines is paramount. Be sure to register your child at the appropriate age/grade level.  Falsification of age or grade will void the registration and NO refund will be issued.

To cheer, a cheerleader must be between the ages of 5 and 14.  A cheerleader must be 5 as of August 1, 2008.  A 9th grade cheerleader cannot cheer on an all-star or high school team.

Team Selection

As stated above, you must register your child at the correct age/grade level. However, working within the 20% up/down maximum allowance, you may complete the "Special Squad Request" area on the on-line form. This area allows you to submit a special request for team placement for a specific reason. The Board will consider special requests once ALL registrations are finalized.  Special squad placements are NOT guaranteed. The Board will consider each request individually, while working within the new County age/grade guidelines.

Walk Up Registration

Registration will be held at Milton Somers Middle School on June 14 and 21, 2008, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  The cost of registration will be $135.  You and your child need to be present so that you child may be weighed-in, fitted for their equipment/uniform, and to sign required county forms.
