FEAR THE KNIGHT

To All Our LPBK Parents:

LPBK would like to take this moment to thank you all for your trust in our coaches and  the BOD.  The coaches have been working tirelessly and with great dedication to get to this point.  The BOD could not be more proud of the coaches efforts.  The BOD would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this first month of try-outs, training, drafts.  LPBK is going through a lot of changes, but all for the best. There have been a few families that have been reluctant to change, and that's unfortunate.

I want you all to understand that LPBK is for youth development, we are not an AAU or All-Star league. Our volunteer coaches want to see each child succeed, and sometimes that may go against what you feel is the best for your child.  As your children change teams and coaches year to year, their positions may change too.  The decisions to put your child in a particular position is the coaches decision.  It will always be the coaches decision no matter who they play for.  As parents I ask that you stress to your child that everyone on the team plays in important role and that playing as team will contribute to the success of that team.  The positive reinforcement you show to your child before and after games/practice makes the game more fun for the child and easier for the coaches to teach.  None of our kids are guaranteed success or riches based on playing a particular position, so help the coaches in stressing the positives of good character, team-work and sportsmanship.

Again if there are areas where you see we need to improve, your suggestions to LPBK would be greatly appreciated and considered.  If you have a problem with anyone, a coach, a child, or parent, please bring it to our attention immediately.  Communication is an important element to the overall success of LPBK.

Thank you all for your support!

LPBK President Craig Stewart

PRESIDENT’S LETTER

On behalf of the La Plata Blue Knights (LPBK) Board of Directors (BOD), I’d first like to welcome you all to the 2008 LPBK Football and Cheerleading season.  For our returning players and alumni, we want to thank you for your continued support and trust in LPBK.   For those of you that are new to LPBK, we want to welcome you to the best youth football and cheerleading organization in Southern Maryland.  I have been involved with LPBK for the past 4 years, I bleed LPBK blue.   As your new President, my ultimate goal is to ensure that LPBK provides a safe, enjoyable, but competitive atmosphere for our children.  This season the LPBK BOD has implemented numerous new and exciting programs, ideas, merchandise, etc.  The LPBK BOD looks forward to serving your family and children.

Here is what’s new for LPBK in 2008:

Establishment of Cheerleading Committee

Establishment of Football Committee

Banquet Committee

Homecoming Committee

New LPBK BOD Historian

Refurbished Concession Stand and New Menu, to include Sausages and French Fries

New Merchandise (i.e. Team Jackets, logos, stickers)

New Football and Cheerleading Uniforms

New Football Helmet Logo “LP”

Football and Cheer Camps

Coaches Clinics

New Training Equipment

Updated Website

New BOD Shirts so that you may easily identify BOD members

New Slogan “FEAR THE KNIGHT!”

As you can see, in a short time, the NEW LPBK BOD has been extremely busy and shown a true commitment in making things better for the good of LPBK.  Even with the dedicated BOD members giving 100%, the BOD cannot do it alone.  LPBK is a community organization and with that said we’re going to need everyone’s best efforts.  LPBK is seeking the support of local businesses to donate money and services, and LPBK families to donate their time like never before, to help make LPBK the best it can be.

As LPBK BOD we represent every child and every family.  We are here for the betterment of LPBK as a whole. As President I personally challenge every parent to express ALL your concerns, whether good or bad, in a timely and constructive manner. It serves no one any good to say inflammatory remarks to/or about any member of the LPBK.  The BOD and our coaching staff want to hear your concerns, but I challenge you all to provide solutions along with your concerns.  Unfortunately, from time to time we will have to experience behavior from parents or children that is not acceptable.  For those parents and children who don’t conduct themselves with decorum and civility, I promise as your President to swiftly pursue every avenue of discipline.  LPBK is about the children, not a particular child, family, coach, or BOD.  I ask that you to be patient with your coaching staffs and BOD, as changes don’t happen overnight.  There will be growing pains as we implement these new changes, but rest assured everyone will be giving their very best effort.

In closing, as your President, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our children are taught to have good character and display exemplary sportsmanship.  I will have our coaching staffs understand that it’s the least athletic children that require the most of their coaching ability.  I will not tolerate nepotism or politics.  Our coaches will instill the principles of HARD WORK, CHARACTER, TEAM FIRST and NEVER QUIT.  The BOD will proactively seek out better equipment, training, and competition for LPBK.  It is also our duty to ensure that the LPBK is fiscally responsible for the future of our league.  I want everyone in Southern Maryland to know that LPBK is a league like no other.
